Newa Guthi Victoria Presents Newa Culture at Geelong Nepali Pathshala

Newa Guthi Victoria was pleased to visit Geelong Nepali Pathshala on 15 August 2026 for a special cultural presentation and interactive session introducing children to the rich heritage and traditions of the Newa community.
The session focused on introducing students to Newa culture, traditional music and festivals, with an engaging presentation designed to help young learners understand and appreciate Nepal’s diverse cultural heritage.
Students were introduced to Newa Baja, including the traditional Dhimay, as well as the significance of festivals such as Gai Jatra and Indra Jatra. The session explored the history, traditions and community values behind these celebrations in a simple and engaging way for children.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the students to learn about the work of Newa Guthi Victoria and its efforts to preserve, practise and share Newa culture with younger generations and the wider community.
Newa Guthi Victoria sincerely thanks the Geelong Nepali Pathshala, teachers, parents and students for the warm welcome and enthusiastic participation. We look forward to continuing to work together to promote cultural awareness, learning and community connection.

Lumbini International Festival 2026: Dhime Performance and Sukunda Rally

Newa Guthi Victoria proudly participated in the Lumbini International Festival 2026, sharing Newa culture and heritage through traditional music and community participation at the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion.
The Newa community joined the festival with a vibrant Dhime Baja performance and Sukunda rally, bringing the distinctive rhythms and cultural traditions of the Kathmandu Valley to the wider community.
The Sukunda rally provided a meaningful cultural presentation, representing the sharing of light, heritage and cultural identity, while the Dhime performance brought energy and celebration to the festival.
Newa Guthi Victoria’s participation provided an opportunity to introduce Newa traditions to people from diverse cultural backgrounds and to demonstrate the richness of Nepal’s cultural heritage.
The event also highlighted the importance of cultural collaboration and participation in bringing communities together in a spirit of peace, harmony and mutual respect.

Meet and Greet with Kumasagar and Khowpa Band

Newa Guthi Victoria had the opportunity to attend a special meet and greet with Kumasagar and Khowpa Band, held at the Consulate of Nepal for Victoria Office in Glenroy.
The gathering provided an opportunity for community members and cultural representatives to connect with the artists, share experiences and celebrate the growing appreciation of Nepali and Newa music and cultural expression.
Newa Guthi Victoria was represented by Rojman, who took part in the gathering and helped strengthen connections between the cultural community and visiting artists.
The meet and greet reflected the importance of creating opportunities for artists, cultural organisations and community members to connect, collaborate and support Nepal’s diverse musical and cultural heritage.

Nepali New Year – Biska Jatra Community Celebration 2026

Newa Guthi Victoria brought the community together to celebrate Nepali New Year 2083 through a vibrant Biska Jatra Community Celebration, combining cultural traditions, music, dance, food and community participation.
The celebration at Tarneit Skatepark, Baden Powell Reserve provided an opportunity for families and community members to welcome the New Year while experiencing and sharing important Newa cultural traditions.
A major highlight of the celebration was the live Dhime Baja and Newari Dhime dance, bringing the distinctive rhythms and energy of Newa music to the community gathering. The performances showcased Newa musical heritage and provided an opportunity for younger generations to participate in and experience traditional culture.
The program also included Khaat, puja and traditional Newari food, allowing community members to share cultural practices, blessings and food with family and friends.
The celebration was attended by community leaders and representatives, whose presence added to the significance of the gathering and reflected the growing recognition and support for Newa cultural activities in Victoria.
The event created a welcoming space for families and community members to connect, celebrate and strengthen cultural relationships. Through music, dance, traditional practices and shared food, the celebration helped keep Newa traditions active and connected across generations.

Newa Guthi Victoria proudly participated in the 9th World Newah Day, bringing the Newa community together at Coburg Lake Reserve to celebrate Newa identity, heritage, culture and community connection.
The gathering provided an opportunity for families and community members to come together in a relaxed and welcoming environment, celebrating the traditions and values that connect Newah communities around the world.
A special highlight of the gathering was the sharing of traditional Newari food, including Wo and Dya Kula, giving community members an opportunity to enjoy and celebrate Newa culinary traditions together.
The event highlighted the importance of preserving not only Newa music, dance and festivals, but also the traditional foods and practices that form an important part of Newa cultural identity.

The Australian Nepalese Multicultural Centre (ANMC) celebrated Maha Shivaratri 2026 on Sunday, 15 February, at its community centre in Diggers Rest, Victoria. The day-long celebration brought the community together through traditional prayers, cultural activities and a special formal evening program.
Newa Guthi Victoria proudly participated in the celebration, contributing a vibrant Newari cultural performance that showcased the richness and diversity of Newa heritage.
The performance featured a traditional Newari dance, followed by a unique Dhime and Basuri fusion, bringing together traditional percussion and flute to create a dynamic cultural presentation for the audience.
Newa Guthi Victoria’s participation provided an opportunity to share Newa music and dance with the wider Nepalese and multicultural community while celebrating the spirit of unity and cultural diversity that Maha Shivaratri represents.
