Lumbini International Festival 2026 – Community Update

9 May 2026 | The Great Stupa of Universal Compassion, Bendigo, Victoria

Newa Guthi Victoria proudly participated in the Lumbini International Festival 2026, sharing Newa culture and heritage through traditional music and community participation at the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion in Bendigo.

The Newa community joined the festival with a vibrant Dhime Baja performance and Sukunda rally, bringing the distinctive rhythms, traditions and cultural expressions of the Kathmandu Valley to the wider community.

The Sukunda rally provided a meaningful cultural presentation representing light, heritage and cultural identity, while the energetic Dhime performance brought the spirit and vibrancy of Newa music to the festival.

Newa Guthi Victoria’s participation created an opportunity to introduce Newa traditions, music and cultural symbols to people from diverse cultural backgrounds, contributing to a broader appreciation of Nepal’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.

The festival also provided an opportunity for cultural communities to come together in a spirit of peace, harmony, mutual respect and shared cultural appreciation. Newa Guthi Victoria’s participation reflected its commitment to engaging with the wider community and sharing Newa heritage beyond the Newa community.

The event demonstrated how traditional music and cultural practices can create connections between communities while helping younger generations remain connected with their heritage.

This archive entry records Newa Guthi Victoria’s participation in the Lumbini International Festival 2026 and its continued efforts to preserve, practise and share Newa culture through music, traditional symbols and community engagement.
