Newa Guthi Victoria proudly participated in the Lumbini International Festival 2026, sharing Newa culture and heritage through traditional music and community participation at the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion in Bendigo.

The Newa community joined the festival with a vibrant Dhime Baja performance and Sukunda rally, bringing the distinctive rhythms, traditions and cultural expressions of the Kathmandu Valley to the wider community.

The Sukunda rally provided a meaningful cultural presentation representing light, heritage and cultural identity, while the energetic Dhime performance brought the spirit and vibrancy of Newa music to the festival.

Newa Guthi Victoria’s participation created an opportunity to introduce Newa traditions, music and cultural symbols to people from diverse cultural backgrounds, contributing to a broader appreciation of Nepal’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.

The festival also provided an opportunity for cultural communities to come together in a spirit of peace, harmony, mutual respect and shared cultural appreciation. Meet and Greet with Kumasagar and Khowpa Band – Community Update

Newa Guthi Victoria had the opportunity to attend a special meet and greet with Kumasagar and Khowpa Band, held at the Consulate of Nepal for Victoria Office in Glenroy.

The gathering provided an opportunity for community members and cultural representatives to connect with the visiting artists, share experiences and celebrate the growing appreciation of Nepali and Newa music and cultural expression.

Newa Guthi Victoria was represented by Rojman, who took part in the gathering and helped strengthen connections between the cultural community and the visiting artists.

The meet and greet reflected the importance of creating opportunities for artists, cultural organisations and community members to connect, collaborate and support Nepal’s diverse musical and cultural heritage.

Nepali New Year – Biska Jatra Community Celebration 2026 – Community Update

Newa Guthi Victoria brought the community together to celebrate Nepali New Year 2083 through a vibrant Biska Jatra Community Celebration, combining cultural traditions, music, dance, food and community participation.

The celebration at Tarneit Skatepark, Baden Powell Reserve provided an opportunity for families and community members to welcome the New Year while experiencing and sharing important Newa cultural traditions.

A major highlight of the celebration was the live Dhime Baja and Newari Dhime dance, bringing the distinctive rhythms and energy of Newa music to the community gathering. The performances showcased Newa musical heritage and provided an opportunity for younger generations to participate in and experience traditional culture.

The program also included Khaat, puja and traditional Newari food, allowing community members to share cultural practices, blessings and food with family and friends.

The celebration was attended by community leaders and representatives, whose presence added to the significance of the gathering and reflected the growing recognition and support for Newa cultural activities in Victoria.

Newa Guthi Victoria proudly participated in the 9th World Newah Day, bringing the Newa community together at Coburg Lake Reserve to celebrate Newa identity, heritage, culture and community connection.

The gathering provided an opportunity for families and community members to come together in a relaxed and welcoming environment, celebrating the traditions and values that connect Newah communities around the world.

A special highlight of the gathering was the sharing of traditional Newari food, including Wo and Dya Kula, giving community members an opportunity to enjoy and celebrate Newa culinary traditions together.

The event highlighted the importance of preserving not only Newa music, dance and festivals, but also the traditional foods, customs and practices that form an important part of Newa cultural identity.

World Newah Day also provided an opportunity for community members to strengthen relationships, share experiences and encourage younger generations to remain connected with their Newa heritage.

The Australian Nepalese Multicultural Centre (ANMC) celebrated Maha Shivaratri 2026 on Sunday, 15 February, at its community centre in Diggers Rest, Victoria. The day-long celebration brought the community together through traditional prayers, cultural activities and a special formal evening program.

Newa Guthi Victoria proudly participated in the celebration, contributing a vibrant Newari cultural performance that showcased the richness and diversity of Newa heritage.

The performance featured a traditional Newari dance, followed by a unique Dhime and Basuri fusion, bringing together traditional percussion and flute to create a dynamic cultural presentation for the audience.
